On World Radio Day, 13 February 2025, the global DAB+ association ‘WorldDAB’ published its latest country comparison. DAB+ published. Currently, almost 150 million DAB+ devices are in use by the public worldwide. The strongest growth is currently being seen in France and Australia.
The largest number of devices are in the United Kingdom (UK) with over 55 million, Germany (28.3 million) and Italy (10 million). In the UK, Finland and Switzerland, the proportion of households with such devices is already very high. However, the proportion of cars equipped with this technology still needs to grow. After all, in the vast majority of European countries, almost all (98-100%) of new cars already have DAB+ devices installed. Even in Greece, it now accounts for a remarkable 92% of new cars.
The transmitter networks have now been expanded to such an extent that in DK (99.9%), NO (99.7%) and in Switzerland 99.5% of the population is covered by DAB+. The values are also high in DE, UK, BE, CZ, NL and IT (around 90% or higher). Australia and France, where only around two out of three inhabitants can receive DAB radio signals, have some catching up to do.
Switzerland is not only ahead in terms of the number of roads supplied, but – together with Denmark – is even the leader. In this country, 99% or 1450 km of roads (including tunnels) are already covered by DAB.
Switzerland is also ahead in terms of diversity. Here, 90 national radio stations are broadcast, although not all of them can be received throughout the country. In most other countries in the top group, the figure is between 49 and 66 programs.
