At home, Internet radio reception (web radio) can be a good alternative if indoor reception is poor in some areas of the home. This is provided you have WiFi and a flat-rate Internet subscription.
However, there are differences compared to DAB:
– DAB also works during internet outages or cyber attacks. DAB stations continue to broadcast for a longer period of time during power outages so that the population can be informed in emergencies. Therefore, DAB devices with batteries or rechargeable batteries can also receive these stations during power outages. It is recommended that you have a DAB+ radio available for emergencies. If a very serious incident occurs and normal radio stations are no longer working, the government can activate emergency FM stations. Virtually all DAB+ devices can be switched to FM, enabling them to receive emergency information even then.
DAB reception can also be enabled at home in any location.

At work / in the office
At first glance, Internet radio reception (web radio) seems to be a simple and inexpensive solution for workplaces.
However, as soon as the company’s Wi-Fi network is opened, a cyber risk arises because a significant proportion of mobile phones are unsecure. Cyber attacks can pose an existential risk to any company (extortion for encrypted data, data theft or damage, and much more).
Existing company Wi-Fi networks should only be used if they are completely separate from the normal company network.
Constant use of mobile phones to listen to the radio can lead to faster battery drainage and high levels of electromagnetic pollution.
There is a risk of increased distraction if employees spend more time on social media during work or even consume conspiracy theories and disinformation. These are abundant on the internet, but not on DAB, because all radio programmes are subject to media laws. On the internet, there is no control over what is true and what is false.
DAB is secure and works completely independently of the internet. It therefore also works in emergency situations and deliberately only in one direction. This means that no personal user data can be transmitted and there are no data volume costs.
Our DAB repeaters are virtually maintenance-free and cannot be influenced by cyber attacks. They have therefore been used in high-security areas for many years.
